Foundations I’ve Tried Recently

I’ve received many requests to do more foundation reviews, so I’m back with four new products!

These foundations are at different price points and have various consistencies. And one foundation here took me by surprise because it has a formula that doesn’t typically work for me. But this one has earned a spot in my regular rotation.

5 Foundations I’ve Tried Recently

My Skin Type

I’m 49 and have sensitive skin with rosacea. I have oily/combination skin that is normal around the perimeter (and occasionally dry) with shine/oil breakthrough in the center of my face.

I also live in New Orleans, where it’s extremely hot and humid, so I’m hard on the foundations I test. They must be able to withstand high temperatures and humidity. Because of my skin type and climate, I must set my foundations with powder so they last. But because you may not need to, I always show you what they look like on me before setting them in my in-depth foundation reviews on my YouTube channel HERE and at the bottom of this post.

The Foundations

Bobbi Brown Weightless Skin Oil-Controlling Foundation

Bobbi Brown Weightless Skin foundation has a thin, runny texture that applies easily. I get medium coverage when I apply it with a brush and light-to-medium coverage when I apply it with a makeup sponge.

Designed for various skin types, this foundation claims to control oil and provide coverage without drying out the skin. After applying and before setting with a powder, it has a natural finish and helps minimize the appearance of pores.

This foundation, unfortunately, did not hold up for me after around the 6 to 8-hour mark. This is when I would see break-through shine, even when I used a primer and set my foundation with a powder. If you have normal to dry skin or don’t live in a warm climate like I do, this foundation could work better for you than it did for me.

Bobbi Brown Weightless Skin retails for $57 and comes in 53 shades. I wear Beige (which is a little too light but works well with bronzer).

Ulta Beauty Complexion Crush Foundation

Available in 26 shades, Ulta Beauty Complexion Crush Foundation has been part of the Ulta Beauty Collection for several years now. It appeared a new product on their website, so I wanted to check it out to see if it was reformulated or simply repackaged.

Complexion Crush lovers, you’ll be pleased to know this was just a packaging change!

Complexion Crush has a thick consistency that blends out quickly and easily with any method. It provides medium to medium-full coverage with a beautiful, natural skin finish. I love that it looks flattering on all areas of my skin and how light it feels.

I get some moderate shine after several hours of wearing it, but the formula doesn’t break down, and my makeup still looks good. Complexion Crush is an excellent, affordable foundation for any skin type.

I wear shade light to medium neutral.

Sephora Collection Reveal The Real Skin Tint

Reveal the Real skin tint is formulated to be a light, buildable skin tint. When I apply it with my fingers, the result is sheer, buildable, natural coverage. When I use a brush, it applies smoothly and provides light coverage that evens out my skin tone.

Before setting Reveal the Real skin tint, my skin has a natural satin, skin-like finish. Once my makeup is fully applied and set, the finish is soft matte, and still skin-like.

If I don’t use a primer, I will get shine breakthrough after around three hours. And my skin looks pretty greasy after around four hours. With the help of a mattifying or blurring primer, I can extend the shine breakthrough for another hour or so.

While I wish this was the product for me, it simply doesn’t work for my skin type and climate. But if you live in a dryer climate or have normal to dry skin, this may work well as a no-makeup makeup option!

Available in 20 shades, I wear 130N, light skin with neutral undertones.

Dior Forever Skin Perfect Multi-Use Foundation Stick

I’m picky about stick foundations because most of them don’t work for me. Dior Forever Skin Perfect Foundation Stick is supposed to smooth pores, even your complexion, eliminate imperfections, and last all day.

My favorite way to apply this stick foundation is to swipe it directly on my skin and blend it with either my fingers or a dry makeup sponge. It’s so quick and easy to blend in with either of these two methods! It melds into my skin perfectly when I use these methods.

Forever Skin Perfect is buildable from light to almost medium-full coverage. After setting the foundation with powder, it has a very natural matte finish that looks beautiful on my skin and wears well throughout the day. I am very impressed with this stick foundation!

This new Dior stick foundation is available in 18 shades. I wear 2N, light skin with neutral undertones.

While a majority of these foundations I recently tried didn’t work for me, that doesn’t mean they won’t work for you! Finding a foundation that works well for your skin type can take time. This video also goes into more detail about the new Huda Beauty Easy Blur Foundation and Primer if you’ve been eyeing it up and want to see if it might work for you!
