Best Everyday Foundations for Mature Skin

Finding an everyday foundation that looks natural, flattering, and that wears well can be a challenge for anyone. But it’s especially challenging when you’re over 40 with mature skin. Radiant foundations often exaggerate pores, texture, and fine lines. And foundations that are too matte can look cakey or powdery. With so many foundation options available, it can be overwhelming to decide which ones to try.

After testing countless formulas, I’ve narrowed down my favorite everyday foundations that work beautifully on mature skin. These are foundations that feel good, look good, and wear well throughout the day. Whether you have dry, combination, normal, or oily skin, this list has something for every skin type and budget.

Best Everyday Foundations for Mature Skin

Make Up For Ever HD SKIN

If you’re looking for a foundation that makes your skin look flawless but still look like skin, this is a great option! It applies quickly and easily with a brush or sponge, making it a great choice for daily use. It also does a fantastic job of blurring pores and imperfections and evening out skin tone. The waterproof formula makes it ideal for long days or in humid climates. And while it’s described as a matte foundation, on my combo skin, which tends to get shiny in the center and is normal (and can be dry on the perimeter), it has a natural finish. It’s not too matte at all. It never leaves my normal/dry areas feeling or looking dry. And it feels hydrating and lightweight.

HD Skin provides buildable medium to medium full coverage. I wear shade 2N22.

Maybelline Super Stay Lumi-Matte

This is a standout new foundation from Maybelline. This long-wearing foundation blends out quickly and easily, giving a subtle, lit-from-within finish while offering medium to slightly above medium-full coverage, depending on how much I build it. It flatters my skin while smoothing texture and pores.

Before setting with powder, Lumi Matte has a lovely satin matte finish. After setting with a natural, translucent powder, it has a beautiful natural matte finish with a hint of luminosity. I wear shade 125. 

Chanel Ultra Le Teint Velvet

If you want some coverage but want your skin to look like skin, Chanel’s reformulated Ultra Le Teint Velvet is a fantastic option. It has a thin, watery texture (be sure to shake the bottle before applying!) that blends out like a dream using any method. It builds from sheer to medium ultra skin-like coverage, depending on your application method. It is extremely smoothing and flattering with a soft velvety matte finish that feels weightless.

If you have combination/oily skin, or live in a humid climate, you might experience some moderate shine breakthrough around midday. But it blots and touches up very well. I wear shade B30.

About Face The Performer

This foundation is a breathable, flexible, skincare-infused foundation with a natural finish that enhances your skin. It blends out quickly for sheer- light to medium flattering coverage. I love how healthy this makes my skin look! It’s packed with skin-loving ingredients, including blue agave, wintergreen, and chlorella to help skin feel moisturized, balanced, and smooth. 

This is a great foundation option for combination to dry skin. I wear shade LM1.

L’Oreal True Match

True Match has been around for a long time and is a tried-and-true foundation loved by many. It applies quickly and easily to blur and smooth your skin, for a flattering, effortless look. I achieve natural-looking medium to almost medium-full coverage that always feels lightweight.

If you have dry or normal skin, you’ll absolutely love this foundation! For those with oily or combination skin and shine-prone areas, you will likely need to blot throughout the day if you don’t use a primer underneath. With a primer, you should be good to go! I wear shade W4.

Polite Society More Than a Pretty Face

This makeup-skincare hybrid is packed with ingredients to help minimize pores, brighten, and plump skin. This foundation has a thicker texture, but blends out quickly and easily, and is buildable from medium to just under full coverage. Immediately after application, it gives a naturally luminous, soft-focus finish that feels hydrating and lightweight. After setting, it gives a natural, soft-focus finish.

This foundation never feels or looks greasy or oily. Any shine I get, blots and touches up really well. I wear shade Very Light Neutral.

Covergirl Clean Invisible

This foundation is a true everyday workhorse. It feels like nothing on your skin, yet evens out tone and provides a fresh-faced finish. It blends out seamlessly with any method and builds from light-medium to just over medium coverage with a natural, flattering finish. It feels hydrating yet lightweight. If you’re looking for a foundation that provides just a little something without looking too “done,” this one is for you! 

This is also an excellent foundation for sensitive or acne-prone skin. I wear shade 120.

Laura Mercier Real Flawless Weightless Perfecting

This Laura Mercier foundation is lightweight, waterproof, and smoothing without feeling mask-like. Plus, it applies quickly, which is essential for everyday use. It gives blurring medium coverage that looks incredibly natural on all skin types. I recommend wearing primer underneath for those with oily combination skin. However, it’s still pretty without one if you’re okay with blotting several times throughout the day. 

I wear shade 2W2 warm linen.

Catrice True Skin Hydrating

This long-wearing foundation is fantastic for all skin types. It hydrates without being greasy and offers buildable medium to full coverage with a flattering, soft, velvety matte finish. I love that this formula doesn’t exaggerate any dryness and wears beautifully all day long, even in heat and humidity.

I wear shade 20 warm beige.
