Concealers I’ve Tried Recently

concealers i've tried recently

Finding the right undereye concealer for your skin type that targets your specific concerns can take some time. I’ve tested and reviewed hundreds of concealers over the years. And today I’m excited to share my reviews of these new (and new-to-me) concealers with you. We’ll look at how each one fared on my dry under eyes with dark circles and fine lines.

My Skin Type

I’m 49, and I have sensitive skin with rosacea. While I have oily/combination that is normal around the perimeter (and occasionally dry) with shine/oil breakthrough in the center of my face, my under eyes are very dry. I also have sunken undereyes (under-eye hollows) and dark circles. This combination makes me pretty picky with concealers.

THE CONCEALERS

Vanessa Myricks Yummy Skin Lift & Flex Concealer

This serum hybrid complexion-improving concealer flexes and moves with your skin. It contains beneficial ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, and caffeine. It blends quickly and easily and is buildable from medium to medium-full coverage.

As someone who creases easily, I must quickly set this concealer. Though, I’m not surprised by this since it’s packed with hydrating skincare! It feels lightweight and lasts all day. However, my undereyes look a bit dry during the day.

If you are very crease-prone, don’t like setting your undereye area, or have very dry under eyes, this concealer might not be the one for you.

There are 20 flexible shades in this range, and I wear shade 5, described as light with peach undertones.

JOAH Hydrating Eye Serum Concealer

As a skincare-forward concealer, JOAH Serum Concealer is a multitasker that helps with hydration, fine lines, and puffiness.

This concealer initially caught my eye because the description focused on it being infused with hydrating ceramides and firming peptides, which I love. Although, I noticed only one peptide after looking at the ingredient list. And it, along with the ceramides, are at the bottom of that list.

It has a thin, creamy, gel texture and an attached sponge applicator (not my favorite). As someone with dark, dry under eyes, I couldn’t get enough coverage from this concealer – even layered over a color corrector. Plus, it felt dry, even before setting.

While it didn’t work out for me, if you don’t have dry under eyes or dark circles, this could be a nice skincare-infused concealer that works well for you.

Joah serum concealer comes in 10 shades. I wear fair light with cool undertones.

Tarte Creaseless Creamy Corrector

Tarte Creamy Corrector is packed with beneficial ingredients, including maracuja and cloudberry complex, to brighten the appearance of under eyes. It has a slim, paintbrush-style applicator, which I enjoy. I notice a slight chemical scent when applying this corrector that I felt was worth pointing out. It doesn’t last, but it’s there at first for sure!

It provides medium coverage and feels lightweight. It layers well under any concealer, including the matching Tarte Creaseless Creamy concealer.

This corrector comes in five shades. I wear peachy pink.

Tarte Creaseless Creamy Concealer

Tarte Creaseless Creamy concealer has a thin, creamy texture that blends out quickly and easily. I get medium coverage without a corrector underneath and medium-full coverage with.

I love that this concealer layers exceptionally well, never feels or looks cakey, and gives my undereyes a hydrated appearance. It also wears well throughout the day without looking dry or emphasizing texture or dryness.

This is a concealer I have been really happy with, and I will be keeping it in my regular rotation!

It comes in 34 shades. I wear 22N light neutral, a nice brightening/concealing shade for me.

Thread Cover It Multi-Use Complexion Fluid Concealer

I stumbled upon this Thread concealer in Target. It’s a full-coverage concealer packed with ingredients to give soft, supple skin and improve dry, damaged skin. It has a thick, creamy texture and a little goes a long way. You only need the tiniest amount for full coverage! Despite its thick consistency, it blends out easily and quickly and feels lightweight. It sort of reminds me of the Tarte Maracuja Juicy Concealer in the pot I reviewed in THIS VIDEO – except in liquid form.

It barely creases on me. So I can apply this and move on to other steps without worrying about it pooling in my fine lines. And it wears amazingly well with only a light dusting of setting powder.

Cover It comes in 11 shades. I purchased shade 03, light warm.

ULTA Beauty Complexion Crush Concealer

ULTA has had Complexion Crush concealer on its shelves for years. But they recently revamped their packaging, so this showed up as a “new” product, which prompted me to check it out. I have no idea why I never tried this before.

This cruelty-free, vegan concealer has the same beneficial ingredients to soothe and condition it always has. ULTA didn’t change the ingredients with this rebranding – only the packaging. The texture is thicker and almost tacky upon application. It wants to sit on top of my skin when I apply it with a brush. So, I find using the warmth of my fingertips the best method for blending this concealer out. Unlike the other concealers in this blog post, this one takes some time to blend.

Complexion Crush claims to have a weightless matte finish that is waterproof and provides full coverage. But this only gives me light to medium coverage, even over a corrector.

There are many lovely products in the ULTA Beauty Collection range, but I unfortunately did not find this concealer to be one of them.

It comes in 16 shades. I wear light neutral.

At the end of the day, everything works differently for everyone. Just because a concealer didn’t work for me doesn’t mean it won’t work for you! Concealers are challenging to nail down, especially if you have dryness, fine lines, and dark circles. It’s all about trial and error. And I’m here to help make the process easier for you – so that eventually, you’ll find a concealer you’ll love to always keep in your rotation.
