Powder Foundations for Mature Skin

Powder foundation is easy and convenient to apply and to carry on the go. But often it can look powdery or exaggerate texture and dryness. It’s difficult to find a powder foundation that’s flattering and that wears well all day. No matter what your skin type is, you’ve most likely had your powder foundation look too powdery, heavy, cakey, or settle into your fine lines. This can happen to anyone of any age, but more so to those with mature skin because our skin types vary so much from one area of the face to another. Over the years of testing and trying out makeup products for mature skin, I’ve found some really great powder foundations for mature skin that work well for all skin types – from oily to dry.

Powder Foundations for Mature Skin

Laura Geller Baked Balance-n-Brighten Color Correcting Powder Foundation

This powder foundation is lightweight and gives light to medium coverage. I love how smoothing it is and that it doesn’t look like powder! This product comes in nine self-adjusting shades to make matching your skin tone easy and with swirled pigments, it gives you some flexibility. I’ve tried both the light and medium shades and can use both although I tend to reach for the medium shade. 

If you have normal to dry skin, or combination skin and don’t live in a very humid climate, this is a really great powder foundation.

Essence 16H Cover & Last Powder Foundation

This budget-friendly powder foundation is available in 12 different shades. Its creamy formula allows me to seamlessly apply it with the included sponge or a brush without getting any dusty powder kick up. It’s lightweight, provides medium coverage, and is great for all-day wear. If you have larger pores or textured skin, this powder does an incredible job smoothing out your skin, giving you a natural, flattering matte finish.

Even when it’s extremely humid, I can get 3-4 hours of great coverage and when I blot, the coverage isn’t affected. I can also touch up with this, which is nice since many powder foundations cake up if you do that. This is a fantastic drugstore powder foundation for more normal to oily skin!

Natasha Denona HY-GLAM Powder Foundation

Moving up in coverage and price, this powder foundation is available in 36 shades. It’s ultra-silky and creamy, giving an extremely smooth, natural matte finish. It looks and feels natural and soft, which is something I always look for in a powder foundation. It gives medium buildable coverage and is the first powder foundation I’ve ever been able to set my dry under eyes with. It’s THAT creamy and natural looking! 

If you have oily or combination skin, I recommend using a primer with this one to combat break-through shine. I think this is great for all skin types, especially dry and mature skin.

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Powder Foundation

Available in 50 shades, this is an extremely creamy, natural, and long-wearing powder foundation – without the need for any setting spray. I can typically get medium to full coverage with this and it performs well on all areas of my face, even when it’s dry! It does have a soft matte finish but doesn’t look like powder or get cakey throughout the day. 

Since it is a soft matte foundation, if you have dry skin you may want to prep your skin well with moisturizer and a hydrating primer.

L’Oréal Infallible 24H Fresh Wear Foundation In A Powder

Retailing under $20, this is one of my favorite drugstore complexion products! Just like these other products in this blog post, it doesn’t look powdery and gives medium to medium-full coverage depending on how you apply it. It has a really flattering, smooth, natural matte finish. It also looks and wears beautifully throughout the day without primer or setting spray!

I definitely recommend this one for normal to oily skin. If I have dry or dehydrated areas, I have to work a little harder to work it into my skin so those areas don’t show.

Mac Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation

This powder foundation has had a place in my makeup bag for many years. It’s extremely versatile and reliable. It also has one of the best shade ranges out of all of these powder foundations, making it easy to find one that works for your skin tone.

The product itself is incredibly creamy and smooth, and no matter how my skin is behaving, it always works so well. It’s also buildable in a way that no other powder foundation has been for me. Whether you’re looking for a sheer finish or full coverage, this will give you what you’re looking for. Once applied, it has a beautiful, natural, soft finish and is extremely long-wearing, even without primer or setting spray.

If you have normal to oily skin, this Studio Fix is a no-brainer!
