5-Minute Summer Makeup Routine

5-Minute Summer Makeup Routine

Summer is all about effortless beauty, glowing skin, and minimal fuss. With the heat and humidity, the last thing you want is a heavy makeup routine. Here’s a quick and easy 5-minute summer makeup routine that will keep you looking fresh and radiant all day long. In just six steps and five minutes, you can be out the door and feeling your best!

Step 1: Lightweight Base

When it comes to a quick makeup routine for long hot days, a lightweight base is key! Of course, before starting with your quick 5-minute face, you must apply sunscreen as the last step of your skincare routine and let it sink in for a few minutes first. There’s nothing worse than trying to apply makeup over freshly applied sunscreen and having it pill up or slide off during the day. EltaMD makes some excellent sunscreen options like the EltaMD UV Daily SPF 40 Tinted Face Sunscreen Moisturizer. It’s a go-to line for me that offers chemical and mineral, as well as clear and tinted sunscreens.

After allowing your sunscreen to absorb for several minutes, applying a BB cream or tinted moisturizer to even out your skin tone keeps things simple and fast. You can use your fingers, a damp beauty sponge, or a brush for a seamless, natural finish. I like to use a sheer face product like L’Oreal Age Perfect 4-in-1 Tinted Face Balm. Now my skin is protected from the sun and my complexion evened out!

Step 2: Conceal + Set

Next, use a creamy concealer to cover any blemishes, redness, or under-eye circles. Apply a small amount with your fingers or a brush, blending well for a natural look. This step gives you any extra coverage you need on your face, plus brightens and covers under-eye circles. My current favorite concealer is Tower 28 Beauty Swipe All-Over Hydrating Serum Concealer. Just like the name suggests, it hydrates my skin while providing beautiful, skinlike medium to medium-full buildable coverage. It also feels lightweight.

If you need to set your face with powder like I do, now is the time. Setting with a sheer translucent powder will still look natural and will keep your makeup on your face longer than cream products alone. One of my favorite setting powders I use almost daily is from Huda Beauty!

Step 3: Touch of Color

The Tarte Park Ave Princess Cream Cheek Duo is perfect for adding some quick color to my face. I love that it has both a creamy bronzer and blush in one compact, making application easy and effortless. It looks beautiful, wears well all day, and is perfect to take in your bag too! Another great combo product for a summer bronze glow is the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Blonzer. This liquid blush + bronzer can be applied in one step across your cheeks and nose to give a gorgeous sunkissed radiance to your skin.

Step 4: Define & Shape Brows

Brows frame the face, so you don’t want to overlook them – even if you’re getting ready quickly. Defining and shaping your brows is an essential step in your summer makeup routine that can be done efficiently if you use the right products! Two of my favorite brow products for filling in my sparse brows are Maybelline Build a Brow Pen and Benefit Precisely My Brow Detailer Microfine Waterproof Eyebrow Pencil. They’re both user-friendly and perfect for mimicking brow hairs naturally.

Step 5: Enhance your Eyes

Simply swiping on a simple cream shadow like Merit Solo Shadow will add more dimension while still looking natural. Two neutral shades I love are Studio and Vachetta. It takes just seconds to swipe cream shadow on my lid with my finger and blend it into my crease. Curling your lashes is a must to look more awake and lifted. The 20R curler is one I use daily because it’s shaped perfectly for my eyes, is gentle on my lashes, and creates a curl rather than a bend. Opt for a waterproof mascara formula to avoid smudging in the summer heat. After applying and letting it dry about 75%, run a metal lash comb through your lashes to comb through any clumps and leave them looking fluffy and natural.

Step 6: Add a Lip!

Because I love playing around with various lip shades during the summer, I don’t have one specific lip color option for you. Instead, I have two formulas I’ve been reaching for fairly often. Kaja Jelly Charm Glazed Lip Stain is a go-to for me because it leaves a lovely stain on my lips along with hydration. Since it stains my lips, I love being able to swipe it on and not worry about reapplying it. I’ve also been loving the new Clarins Lip Oil Balms. Just like their original lip oils, they’re extremely hydrating and leave a gorgeous smooth finish and a sheer tint on my lips.

Bonus Tips:

  • Finishing Powder: As the final step of your makeup routine, buff a sheer finishing powder over your finished makeup look. It gives a stunning airbrushed, perfected look and helps lock your makeup in even longer. I have a video, including a demo here if you want to see more. The extra 10 seconds it totally worth it! My favorite finishing powder is MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural.

  • Highlight & Color: If I need a bit more color once my makeup is complete, I quickly swipe some powder bronzer ( like the Fenty Beauty one above) across my face with a fluffy brush where needed. If it’s more pink on the cheeks I want, I enjoy a blush with a slight sheen in the summertime like. Hourglass Blush is perfect for that glow!

Adding these final touches at the end can make a huge difference to your overall look!

I hope you enjoyed my 5-minute summer makeup routine! It’s all about enhancing your natural beauty with minimal effort and creating a stunning summer look in a flash. With these simple steps, you’ll be ready to take on the summer heat, looking fresh and radiant! I hope you find something you love with these products! If you have any beauty tips or favorite products, I would love to hear them!
