Taylor Swift’s Iconic Red Lipstick: Get The Perfect Red Lip

If you’re a makeup enthusiast like me, you’ll understand the thrill of finding that perfect red lipstick. And who better to turn to than the queen of the modern red lip herself – Taylor Swift. For years a red lip has been her beauty signature. From her glamorous red carpet looks to her stage performances, Taylor has been rocking a red lip since 2009. But once the Eras tour started, interest piqued. Everyone was wondering what red lipstick does Taylor Swift actually wear? And how does it stay on and still look good through those 3+ hour Eras Tour performances (even through the rain)?

Today, I’m sharing Taylor Swift’s red lipsticks that she or her makeup artists have confirmed she wears (or that her longtime makeup artist has strongly hinted she has worn). You can see me swatch these on my lips HERE and catch some red lip hacks at the end you don’t want to miss. It’s showtime!

MAC Ruby Woo

Ah, a celebrity favorite and confirmed Taylor favorite – Ruby Woo! Taylor has been seen sporting this timeless red numerous times, and it’s easy to see why it’s a staple in her makeup bag. The retro matte finish is stunning, and the color payoff is incredible. It has excellent staying power, essential for long days and long nights. MAC recently reformulated its matte formula, so these aren’t as dry as they once were and now have a velvet-matte finish. So if you dislike liquid lipsticks like I do, but want something long-lasting, you may enjoy this formula as an alternative.

Pat McGrath Elson 4

Taylor wears this ultra long-wearing lip in the Bejeweled music video. It’s also been rumored to be the lipstick she wears for the Era’s Tour. Elson 4 is a vivid blue-red toned lipstick with a velvety matte finish. It leaves your lips comfortable with a weightless feel. Typically, liquid lipsticks can be very drying, but this one isn’t compared to most. Plus, this lip isn’t going anywhere!

Fenty Stunna Lip Pain in Uncensored

If you’re looking for a bold, fearless red (Ha! Get it…fearless?!) like we see Taylor wear so often, look no further than Uncensored. This liquid lip paint delivers a high-impact color with a soft matte finish that commands attention. It’s described as a perfect universal red that feels weightless and comfortable. To note, they recommend shaking the product before applying!

NARS Dragon Girl Powermatte

This shade was confirmed by Taylor herself years ago, but it was in the older format that has been discontinued. The new version isn’t as long-lasting but still gives that iconic red shade! The new formula glides on effortlessly and offers a velvety matte finish that stays put for hours. Dragon Girl is vibrant and bold, perfect for making a statement, just like Taylor always does.

Patrick Ta That’s Why She’s Late

One of Taylor Swift’s longtime makeup artists shared this iconic red as one of her favorite red lipsticks. So it’s a pretty safe bet she used it on Taylor at some point. That’s Why She’s Late is a matte, pigmented cherry red shade that glides on with ease, leaving a powdery velvet finish that lasts.

Lisa Eldridge Velvet Ribbon

This is another classic red beloved by Taylor’s makeup artist that could have been used on Taylor as well. Velvet Ribbon is a universally flattering Parisian shade that seems to be flattering on everyone. And best of all, it’s not a flat matte. It’s creamy and hydrating, leaving a flattering sheen behind.

Sephora Collection Always Red

I love that this affordable red lip option is rumored to be one of Taylor’s picks. I pulled this one straight from my makeup bag as it’s a personal favorite. Always Red is a classic matte true red liquid lipstick with lovely pigment and longevity that I find quite comfortable for a liquid lipstick formula.

Tom Ford Flame

If you are more into orangey reds, this one’s for you! The bright yet wearable color is a creamy and comfortable option that’s matte but not flat. I find this formula to be long-lasting for a traditional bullet lipstick. It’s clear to see why Flame and Tom Ford lipstick is a favorite of celebrity makeup artists.

4 Steps for the Perfect Red Lip

I hope the tips below help you achieve a beautifully defined, longer-lasting, perfect red lip! To see these tips in action, check out my YouTube video here.

  1. The first step to getting the perfect lip is starting with a clean lip. I first like to use a lip scrub to remove any dead or dry skin. This helps ensure a smooth look and even wear. To remove all traces of the scrub, I find using a makeup wipe to be the most effective method. Using your finger or a tissue can leave granules behind, which isn’t good for a smooth red lip.
  2. Next apply a small amount of lip balm to hydrate your lips, leaving them moisturized and ready for color.
  3. Then, I like to shape my lips with red lip liner and fill in with a red lip stain. This gives your lips definition and a perimeter so the red won’t bleed, plus a red tint that stays behind even if your red lip wears away. Below are two of my favorite products for this!
  4. Lastly, after applying your red lipstick of choice, I lock it in. To do this, I split apart a tissue and place a single ply over my lips. After dipping a powder brush into translucent powder, I tap it lightly over the tissue.

There you have it, Taylor’s Red Lip lineup! Each shade has its unique style and personality, just like Taylor herself. Whether you’re in your bold statement or classic Hollywood era, there’s red lipstick for everyone. Let me know if you have tried any of these and if you have been to the Era’s Tour! It truly is the best time!
