Summer Sunscreen: How to Choose the Best One for You

Summer Sunscreen: How to Choose the Best One for You

Choosing the right sunscreen for summer is important, but there are so many options available in the market. Here are some tips that can help you choose the right sunscreen for you:

Choose a Sunscreen with at Least SPF 30

The SPF measures how well the sunscreen protects against UVB rays. Experts recommend using sunscreen with at least SPF 30, which can block 97% of UVB radiation. Look for sunscreens with 40+ or even 50+ SPF on the label for more protection!

Consider Your Skin Type

Different skin types require different sunscreens. If you have dry skin, look for a sunscreen that contains hydrating ingredients like glycerin or hyaluronic acid. Paula’s Choice RESIST Youth-Extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 50 is an excellent option for dry or normal skin types!  If you have oily or acne-prone skin, look for a sunscreen that is oil-free and non-comedogenic. I love this Paula’s Choice RESIST Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 for oily or combination skin!

Choose a Water-resistant Sunscreen

If you plan to swim or sweat, choose a water-resistant sunscreen that will stay on your skin longer. CoTz has two great waterproof sunscreen options; the CoTz Face Prime & Protect Tinted SPF 40 for oily skin types and the CoTz Face Moisture Lightly Tinted Sunscreen SPF 35 for dry to normal skin.

Applying Sunscreen Under Makeup

Wearing sunscreen under your makeup is an essential step in protecting your skin from the damaging effects of the sun. Sun exposure can lead to premature aging, wrinkles, and even skin cancer, so taking precautions to protect your skin is essential. Supergoop! Mineral Mattescreen SPF 40 is a great mineral sunscreen to apply before your makeup! While some makeup products contain SPF, they may not provide enough protection on their own. It’s always best to use a separate sunscreen product for the best protection!

Apply Enough Sunscreen

Experts recommend applying one ounce (a shot glass full) of sunscreen to cover your entire body and 1/4 tsp (about the size of a nickel) for your face. Apply sunscreen 15-30 minutes before going outside and reapply every two hours or after swimming or sweating.

With these tips, you can choose a sunscreen that will effectively protect your skin during the summer! Ultimately, the best sunscreen for you will depend on your skin type, lifestyle, and personal preferences. Choosing a sunscreen you’ll enjoy using every day is important!

If you use a primer and sunscreen before makeup, should you put the primer on before or after sunscreen?
