Have you ever wondered why some people look like they’re stuck in a certain decade – like their style just never evolved? I feel like we’ve all seen someone who looks like they could almost be teleported back to the 70s, 80s, or 90s and have wondered how that happens. My theory is that they just completely stop following trends altogether. And it could have happened so gradually that they didn’t even notice. Don’t get me wrong, there’s something to be said for not getting sucked into trends. But I feel like if we don’t keep up just a little bit we’ll end up in major style ruts. I don’t know about you, but I certainly don’t want someone to look at me and wonder why I look like I’m a decade behind!
I prefer mixing classic with trends rather than going full-on trendy. Since we’re now in full swing of fall, it’s a great time to check out new trends to see where we can use a wardrobe refresh or intersperse some trendy pieces into our wardrobes here and there! This is my favorite time of year because the trends are absolutely unbeatable – from all the neutrals to the cozy oversized looks. I’m here for it! And feel like layering makes it much easier to build outfits for my fall wardrobe. So today, I want to talk about some fall looks and trends you can and should be jumping on that work for all ages.
Faux Leather Everything

Leather is in style in a big way this fall, ladies! The look of leather is a classic that has evolved into different forms over the years. It always makes a statement and can truly elevate an outfit. Yet simply throwing on a pair of faux leather leggings with a graphic t-shirt never fails to make a casual outfit chic. I have seen leather dresses trending everywhere this fall, which I love! Don’t be afraid to rock the leather look in your fall outfits, whether casual or dressy.
Lifestyle Sneakers

This is a great trend for my casual ladies that’s bigger than ever. You can pair lifestyle sneakers with virtually anything from jeans to pants to dresses and end up with a fabulous look! Now before you try this out, note that lifestyle sneakers (also sometimes called fashion sneakers) are not to be confused with traditional running sneakers or trainers. There’s a big difference in the end result when you wear one over the other. To make it easy, most websites even have an entire filter category for lifestyle and fashion sneakers. There are so many styles of lifestyle sneakers now to give you that cool look. Personally, I prefer a white or neutral look that goes with everything. But there are also many brands and styles with fun colors that pair great with neutral outfits. Below are just a few of the many great options I found. Of course, you can find loads more once you’re on the sites too!
Drapey Oversized Shirts & Jackets

This classic oversized look has been popular for a couple of years now. I definitely think there is more opportunity in the fall to perfect this style. An oversized shirt or jacket can upgrade that cozy outfit we all love during the fall. Because it’s perfect for layering, you can throw on an oversized button-down with just about anything – jeans, sweatpants, a dress, you name it!
But what I’m really loving and seeing a ton of now is pairing a casual blazer with my outfits. And don’t just stick with neutrals; grab one in a fun color! We’re seeing loads of that this fall! What an easy, effortless, and flattering look for any occasion! If I struggle to put together an outfit in the mornings, layering a casual oversized button-down or blazer is one of my go-to looks.
Chunky Shoes & Boots

I live in the south, so I don’t get to pull out my beloved boots often. Fortunately, chunky loafers, mules, and clogs are here to give me more options. These retro styles are great for both casual outfits and workwear. So if you want to ensure your look is up-to-date, add some chunky retro footwear to your shoe wardrobe this fall.
Wider-Legged Jeans & Pants (in lighter washes)

To stay on trend, flares, boot cuts, and relaxed jeans are what you need this fall. I’m finding these cuts are super easy to style and comfortable to wear all day. Something else to note is that we’re seeing lighter washes now instead of deep dark washes from previous years. Finding the perfect pair of wider-legged jeans for your fall wardrobe is a must because they’ll be super versatile. So if your closet is full of dark wash skinny jeans and you don’t want to look like you’re in a style rut, it’s probably time for a jeans refresh!
Western Footwear

Western footwear has always been around, but it hasn’t been as widely loved as it is now. Adding a traditional western boot to a dress or some jeans and a cute top is perfect for fall. If you’re not into the classic western design, a simple exaggerated pointed-toe shoe or boot also does the trick and looks updated and on-trend. I’m loving this fall trend so much!
It can be hard to keep up with ever-changing trends. I know I don’t want to be seen as the lady stuck in a style rut! All of these options work for any age group and for various occasions. I love all the neutral tones, retro features, and laid-back looks. Let me know in the comments which of these trends is your favorite right now and what you want to see on the blog next! – xoxo
